Dec 11, 2019 · Bandsaw Frame/Legs Stiffener. The sheet metal frame/legs of the saw are overly flexible. Easy to improve with a couple pieces of scrap 2x4 used as braces. Cut two pieces 24" long so they fit between the legs about 5" below the cast Iron saw base. Add a piece of masking tape on each leg 5" down to aid marking out.

Apart from the mainshaft, just about everything on this lathe was made from 25mm square or 25x50mm CRS 1020 steel bar stock. There are no castings it's just cut to size and bolted together. The main spindle and the backplate were turned from 1214 freemachining steel which is much nicer to work with than plain old 1020.

Feb 03, 2008 · The tension screw is no longer pushing against the frame of the saw, it is instead held by the lock nuts and washer above the maple "arm." I had to cut out another "V" shaped section where the guide block shaft sticks up and would otherwise interfere with the arm. I made sure not to taper the arm out to the handle until after that section.

Mar 28, 2013 · So, removed the shaft keeper plate (which will later have deg marks for the untis rotation from vertical to horizontal), made the shaft hole bigger and welded a 3/4" threaded nipple on it (was a 3/4" bolt end with a 1/2" hole drilled through it for shaft clearance). Then had to make the 1/2" hole in each index blank 3/4 as well.

Feb 24, 2012 · I built a woodworking vertical bandsaw with plans and parts from Gilliom Manufacturing. It worked OK, not great it was made of wood, mostly, and vibrated a lot. I then rebuilt it with a metal frame. More work than it was worth for the quality of the tool.
